Although a machine may be mechanically and electrically capable, sometimes the software can be awkward in terms of operation or inaccurate diagnostics. When faults are displayed in a prioritised order, by exception rather than by status, in real time, it allows operators to quickly restart the system.
This style of operation is highly desirable as most issues take a far longer time 'to find than to fix'. The time saved equates to increased production.
As a machine ages things become loose i.e. proximity switches. This 'rattle' effect that will cause a process to halt can be indicated and logged. In fact any aspect of the process that reduces production can be logged. At the end of the shift, the log can be reviewed to see which issues need to be addressed. This allows the production of next shift to be improved.
